Looking Ahead to 2017: Forget About the New Year's Resolutions and Set Realistic Goals

We visited The Bahamas during the holiday and the last week of 2016 was totally well spent. As I was walking on the beach, I realised it's the time of the year again to reflect on the past year and plan for the new year.

To be honest, I don't make New Year's resolutions since chances are that I barely stick to them as I go through the year. My plans at the beginning of the year might be changed throughout the year. I think it is more important to have your long term and short term goals and turn your vision into action.

So here is how I set realistic goals.

-Realistic goals are high but attainable.
It might sounds cliché but the SMART goal is a good tool to keep you on the right track.
S = Specific, M = Measurable, A = Attainable, R = Relevant, T = Time-bounded
-Reassess your goals and adjust your plans accordingly.
Reflect on your current stage and reassess your goals periodically. You can revisit your goals on a quarterly or monthly basis. Make sure your goals are still relevant and they are aligned to the big picture.

-Experiment and encounter with the unknown.
You don't have to plan out everything all at once at the beginning. You will have new ideas throughout your journey and don't be afraid to try out new things. Always have an open mind and welcome new opportunities!

So looking ahead to 2017 and make things happen!
